What Is Push Back Rack

Push back racking  is a pallet storage way that allows pallets to be stored from 2 to 6 deep on either side of an aisle, thereby giving you higher storage density than other forms of racking. A push back rack system can double or triple your storage when compared to standard pallet rack or double deep racking system. With Using a forklift, pallets are pushed back on inclined rails mounted inside the racking. When a pallet is withdrawn, the one behind automaticlally slides forward to the front position of the pallet racking.

Pushback rack systems accomplish their job thanks to a series of carts with wheels attached to them. These carts literally push back on rails anywhere from two to six pallets deep as the next pallets are sequentially loaded one in front of the other. The entire system works on gravity, since the rails the nested carts sit on are positioned on a gradual incline towards the ends of the racks, which in turn face the forklift operator.

In the resulting loading system, every time a pallet is loaded in front of another, the pallet behind pushes back on its cart due to the slight pressure from the pallet that’s being loaded. Similarly, when pallets are unloaded, the pallets positioned behind the one being unloaded roll forward at a controlled pace. This makes the entire row of pallets easily accessible without the forklift or its operator ever having to enter the actual storage system.

Compare Push Back Racks and Drive-In or Drive-Thru Rack Systems

Pushback racking also offers some of the advantages of drive-in and drive-thru racking. It enables greater storage density, full use of vertical space, and eliminates some aisles. Drive-in racking and push back racking both work well for goods with no expiration dates and a long shelf life — since the last material to be put away will be the first material pulled. Push back pallet racking generally offers more flexible selectivity of pallets than drive-in racking, while providing similar storage density and space utilization.

Sunnyrack Exchange offers a wide variety of warehouse pushback racks from multiple manufacturers, so they can easily coordinate with your existing warehouse racking. All our push back racks are made from strong, powder-coated steel for a uniform appearance and protection from nicks and dings. All racks are stored indoors in our climate-controlled warehouses, so you don’t need to worry about rust or corrosion.
